MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR

With snow on the ground and Christmas just days away, there is no better time to walk the Water of Leith. Spotting wildlife in the snow is really easy as these fantastic photos from Gavin prove, the kingfisher was taken on saturday just after a blizzard and the mink a week or so ago.

The Visitor Centre and our offices are closed over the festive period from 24th to 4th January. But do send in your wildlife sightings and if the snow continues we would love to see photos uploaded onto our Water of Leith photo pool on Flickr.

Was it a mink I saw at Cannonmills last week? Everything about it was mink like except for the colour...greyish rather than black. Could it have been something else?

Saw a mink this morning (Friday 8 Jan) downriver of the weir at Redbraes, and my partner saw it there again this evening. Maybe the same one as Martin saw at Canonmills?

Also a woodcock yesterday flying through the trees at the same location.

Was walking with the dog by the weir at Redbraes. A kingfisher flew 100 metres along the quiet bit of water just above the weir. A great show of the shiny blue back, and then as it sat in the branches you could see it's orange front.

Great to hear that the kingfishers are back.
