We are hiring....Do you have what it takes to be our new Project Officer?

The Water of Leith Conservation Trust is seeking a Project Officer. The main focus of the post will be to deliver the outputs of the funded ‘Community and Wildlife Project’ (see below) and, as part of a small staff team, you will also be expected to assist with other areas of the Trust’s work including; group visits, education and staffing of the Visitor Centre. 

 This role will be based at the Water of Leith Visitor Centre, in Slateford, Edinburgh. A four star visitor attraction which welcomes around 17,000 visitors and 150 visiting groups and schools annually. Our volunteer programmes deliver over 100 river clean-ups and conservation tasks annually along the length of the Water of Leith.

 We are looking for a suitably qualified, enthusiastic person, with experience of leading conservation tasks, outdoor learning activities and community engagement events.

Salary: £18,000, plus a 2% pension contribution.

 The position is full time, 5 days per week for a fixed term of 12 months with a possibility of extension subject to funding. Workdays will be Monday to Friday 9.30 to 5.00 (35 hours) with work one Sunday in three on rotation with other staff (taking the preceding Friday off). Additional evening and weekend work maybe required for which time off in lieu will be arranged.

 Applicants should have; A good general knowledge of urban conservation and/or river systems. Degree or relevant qualification. Excellent communication skills. Experience in leading practical conservation tasks and outdoor learning activities is essential. Driving License essential. First Aid desirable. PVG check essential.

  • ·         Deliver 26 fortnightly Hit Squad Conservation tasks
  • ·         Support 8 Youth Placements and 4 Youth Partnerships Projects

  • ·         Maintain/improve 5 Biodiversity Boost Sites along the river
  • ·         Deliver 20 INNS tasks
  • ·         Assist with the delivery of 2 Citizen Science projects and wildlife surveys
