The Shale Trail is a new 16-mile waymarked trail across West Lothian linking sites, features and communities relating to the area’s rich oil shale heritage. The trail largely follows existing paths, stretching from West Calder in the southwest to Winchburgh in the northeast. The talk will also explore how the development of the shale industry in West Lothian has shaped the local landscape, economy, wildlife and culture.
