To confirm Angling is not permitted on the river at the moment due to Covid 19 lockdown measures

The Water of Leith Fishery is closed due to Covid-19.  At present people are only allowed out of their house for four reasons:

• shopping for basic necessities, for example, food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible

• one form of exercise a day, for example, a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household

• any medical need, including to donate blood, avoid or escape risk of injury or harm, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person

• travelling for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home

Angling is not essential nor is it seen as a form of exercise.  Unfortunately, this means the City of Edinburgh Council has taken the decision to close the Fishery.  Permits which have been obtained for the 2020/21 season are not currently valid.
