Here at the Trust we love maps and we recently came across this wonderful website featuring all the mill sites in Scotland. If you zoom in on Edinburgh you can clearly see just how many mills were on the Water of Leith https://maps.nls.uk/projects/mills/

Each site along the river is listed from the one highest up the river at Leith Head Mill on the edge of the Pentland to the Windmill at Tower Street in Leith. One of the densest concentration of mills is from Currie to Colinton 12 mills in just 2 1/2 miles and we visited all on the recent ‘Mills, Spills and Thrills’ Guided Walk. If you have some time to explore its very interesting. If you are keen to discover more do not forget we still sell the book ‘Water Mills of the Water of Leith’ at the centre and online – https://www.waterofleith.org.uk/history/
