Written by Kim Edgar, ‘The River Speaks’ is a celebration of the Water of Leith. Kim wrote the song based on conversations with members of six choirs, each based somewhere along the river, from the port of Leith to the Pentland hills. Their love for the river, an oasis in the middle of a busy city, shines through in every line of this song.
‘The River Speaks’ was commissioned by Creative Lives, with funding from naturescot.
Resources are free and available for any choir that would like to learn and perform this song (with lyric changes available for choirs in other towns/cities with rivers). See the end slide for more details.
*For those not in the know, ‘Edina’ is an old, poetic name for Edinburgh
