Go, Go, Go for the Outdoor Learning Team!

Summer fun, nature adventures, and gearing up for the school year ahead

While schools may have taken a break in July, the Water of Leith Learning Team certainly did not! Alongside our fantastic Visitor Centre team, we were delighted to welcome over 100 children to our outdoor kids events throughout the month.

Together, we explored the Craiglockhart Dells in search of butterflies, river-dwelling invertebrates, and creepy crawlies in the soil. We ventured to Stockbridge to investigate the river, brought creativity to Coalie Park for “Art in the Park,” and pulled on our wellies for some extreme river dipping with Kat.

In addition to our kids’ events, we hosted nearly 150 visitors from various clubs and youth groups, all keen to discover what the Water of Leith can teach us about local ecology. It was an absolute joy to welcome groups such as The BIG Project, Enable Scotland, and Skool Is Out. Sharing our passion for nature with children and young people is a privilege we never take for granted.

As August rolls in, we’re looking forward to even more outdoor fun before we shift gears and prepare for the start of the school term. That means readying our classrooms, refining lesson plans, and constantly seeking out fresh, engaging ways to bring outdoor learning to life.

It’s almost time to go, go, go again — and we can’t wait!
