The Water of Leith Management Plan guides the partners in the Water of Leith Action group to work together to manage and improve the Water of Leith, this update (2025) celebrates five years of collaboration to protect, enhance, and enjoy Edinburgh’s river.
From flood protection and cleaner water to new habitats, improved access, and thriving biodiversity, the update highlights the difference community action and partnership have made. New biodiversity boost sites, volunteer-led invasive species control, walkway upgrades, and heritage restoration projects are just a few of the achievements.
Looking ahead, the plan focuses on climate resilience, habitat restoration, and inclusive access, ensuring the Water of Leith continues to connect nature, people, and heritage across the city.
