At the Water of Leith Conservation Trust, we’ve run an outdoor learning programme for 20 years. We know that getting outdoors offers great opportunities to learn about not only the natural world but also to create amazing works of art, to conduct experiments, and to learn team-building skills. All our programmes are closely linked to the experiences and outcomes of the Curriculum for Excellence, from health and wellbeing, to sciences, technology, social studies and expressive arts.
To support home and classroom learning, we’re offering online learning resources from our flagship programmes. All these activities use materials you may well have at home.
Over the pandemic, our outdoor learning officer Ruth has been on a placement to support special schools in their provision of outdoor learning. While working with Braidburn Special School learners, Ruth collaborated with Oxgangs PS P7s to make a map of accessible walks with fun activities for everyone.
For additional information on any of our Educational Programmes or to book an environmental workshop for your school please call our Outdoor Learning Officer, Ruth Prince, or our administrator on 0131 455 7367 or email [email protected].
The Water of Leith Conservation Trust works to conserve and enhance the river, its heritage and wildlife: The Trust promotes education and recreation through the Visitor Centre, and works with volunteers and community groups to deliver around 240 river clean-ups and habitat improvement tasks annually.
