Special Educational Needs

At the Water of Leith we believe that the woods and river belong to everyone and we are happy to adapt any of our primary or secondary school programmes to meet the needs of a special school class.

If a whole morning of activities seems too much for your group, we are happy to take a class for a two-hour exploration of the river and woods, doing activities to find out more about the natural world as we go.

The Water of Leith Walkway is fully accessible for wheelchairs from Gorgie Road to the Water of Leith Centre at 24 Lanark Road, Edinburgh. It remains accessible in the Craiglockhart Dells as far as the lower stone grotto just before Redhall Bridge. At this point you reach a series of 5-6 steps over the bridge and up the hill. However, we are happy to design a bespoke programme for wheelchair users, either downstream of the Centre or in the area of the Craiglockhart Dells before the grotto.

To discuss the needs of your group and to find a programme that works for you, contact our Outdoor Learning Officer, Ruth Prince or our administrator, Sandie Boyle, on 0131 455 7367 or email [email protected]
