Volunteering - Get Involved

Our volunteers are the heart and soul of the Trust allowing us to run regular practical conservation tasks to conserve, protect and enhance the walkway and river and operate our Visitor Centre and Community Café. They also support our staff team in running educational and fun outings for children of all ages and to help us generate funds through fundraising events.

Below is a list of the current opportunities that are available through the Trust, we try our best to accommodate all ages and fitness levels within the Trust activities and our staff team is always happy to talk over them to find the best fit for you.

If you choose to volunteer with us we simply ask that you turn up on time, follow safety advice given by staff, work to your own limits and enjoy yourself…

Registration Sign-up Details

We ask anyone interested in volunteering in any of the roles available to download our Volunteer Pack and to send us their registration details via the button below.  We have limited capacity for new Visitor Centre Volunteers at the moment, so it might take a while to get back to you. River and Conservation Volunteering is CLOSED to new applicants until April

Volunteer Roles

Conservation Team

Help look after the river in our Conservation Team.  Tasks are three hours long and occur at least three times a week.  You will see the river from a unique perspective, acquire conservation experience and find out much about the river’s wildlife.

Visitor Centre Team

Help to run our Community Cafe and exhibition space; shifts are usually 3 hours long and are available any day of the week.

River Patrols

Are you a regular walkway-user or would like a walk with a purpose to report any issues and wildlife sightings?

Corporate Groups

Teams of volunteers from businesses across the city help to deliver environmental improvement projects in the Water of Leith Valley; why not involve your company?  Conservation work provides a great backdrop to staff training and development. In turn, this can boost team moral, motivation and help with stress management while delivering enjoyment and fun. It’s an excellent opportunity to demonstrate that your business has a commitment to corporate and social responsibility by allowing your staff to work with the third sector in their local outdoor environment.

Youth Conservation

We have a number of conservation opportunities along the river throughout the year suited to schools and youth groups.
