Outdoor Learning in Spring

Easter events for children with special needs can be hard for find but we believe that the woods and the river are for everybody to enjoy. So when Edinburgh Council asked us if we were interested in developing our provision for this group, we jumped at the opportunity. Over the Easter holidays we piloted two new events: for children with limited mobility and for children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. We loved welcoming the children to the Centre and taking them out on the river and we are looking forward to running three events over the summer holidays for children with special needs and their families. This week the new term began and we are excited to meet all the classes who have booked into our programmes and to introduce them to the wonderful world of the river.

Perhaps you are a teacher at an Edinburgh school looking for a unique local learning experience, check out what we offer on our learning pages https://www.waterofleith.org.uk/learning/

We have a diverse range of programmes from Nursery to University levels – Bugs to Biological Surveying, River Dipping to Jacobites of Edinburgh

It’s also really exciting to see our ‘children’s meadow’ by the bench in the Dells coming into bloom especially the snake head fritillary and we have exciting new plans for a children’s learning area downstream from the Visitor Centre
