One of the more unusual things I love doing at the Water of Leith is the young people’s outdoor birthday parties in the dells. It is so rewarding seeing the big smiles and the enthusiasm of the young folk when they discover some new bugs under a log or critters from dipping in the river, try out how to filter water in the wild, start a fire or build a shelter in the woods … or simply listen to the sounds along the river, feel the wind on their faces and the freedom of the outdoors.
Maybe your child would love a different kind of party with their friends! For 5 – 7 year olds we organise activities and games that help them learn about who lives in the woods and the river, including hands on bug hunting and river dipping, games and creative activities about wildlife. For 8 – 11 year olds the theme is usually Survival in the wild, with water filtering, learning how to light a fire, putting up shelters and foraging for food.
