Additional Info

A fun family event for 3 to 6 year olds to explore the river and woods in springtime. Follow the woodland trail and see what you will discover.

Bring your wellies for exploring and splashing in our river. Discover the creatures that call the woods their home and enjoy nature activities along the way. It’s then back to the Visitor Centre for woodland crafts and to explore our interactive exhibition. Our cafe will be open for those needing to refuel after their adventure.

Please book a place for all adults and children 3 and over attending. Younger siblings are welcome to attend for free.

The trail and activities follow a 1/2 mile route though the Dells. The event is aimed at 3 to 6 year olds but siblings are welcome to attend. The trail leaves the main walkway, has sloped sections and may be muddy and uneven under foot therefore could be difficult for buggies and wheelchairs.

Bus 36, 34, 44, cycle routes including 75 nearby, limited parking available

Crossing the Water of Leith: Bridges through time

Many of us enjoy walking beside the Water of Leith, following its riverside path, but how often do we stop to notice the bridges we cross, the ones carrying roads over the river, or even those that seem to lead nowhere? In early 2023, ecologist Lynda Hepburn explored the length of the river with a friend trained as an engineer, discovering a fascinating array of structures that span the water and uncovering some of the Water of Leith’s rich and often overlooked history. Join Lynda on this illustrated journey from Leith to the river’s source and discover the stories behind its bridges—you’ll never look at the Water of Leith in quite the same way again
